Receiving the New Year with Open Arms
It’s that time a year again, out with the old in with the new. I know that in reality we are always changing, discovering new skills and pushing our outer limits. So it can seem a bit silly to make such a big deal out of New Years.
New Years however, is a symbolic time for change for many. So many people around the world see the New year as a New beginning It’s an opportunity to learn from the past year and delve into the next with a sense of hope and anticipation for all the possibilities that lie ahead. We don’t have to feel stuck that things did not turn out exactly as planned in the previous year. There is still time, there is a fresh start.
In that sense the power of New Years lies in the collective intentions across the world to start over, begin again, make things even better. Rather than being overwhelmed by the feeling of making changes alone, we can feel reassured that we are all in this together. There is a global striving to change the world for the better, either through our own intentions for change within or with our commitments to influence change in the world. But really these are the same, for when we commit to positive change within we are in fact contributing to change for the positive in the world. Every little bit counts, as sure as a drop of water makes ripples in a pond, our change can touch the lives of others.
Here is a wonderful video that was shared on the blog Big Island Dog which demonstrates this so nicely.
Regardless of your intentions for change or new beginnings with the new year coming, I feel strongly that it helps to reflect a bit on what you have accomplished first. For without the acknowledgement of all that you have done, it is difficult to harness the trust in Self needed to move forward.
So remember to trust yourself, and your ability to move forward into the new year with openness to the possibilities ahead. For only then will you be able to receive that which will fulfill you.
May you receive the gifts of New Year with an open heart and mind!
