Find Yourself
This time of year can be so busy with all the focus on holiday celebrations. There is a tendency to focus on everyone other than one’s self.
We focus on others; giving, making others happy, hosting parties, entertaining others.
We get lost,
We lose our Self.
Lost in the flux of over scheduling.
Lost in the expectation to please others.
Lost in the crowd of things to do.
It’s easy to become overwhelmed by the bustle of the holidays. To be swept up by the spirit of giving, hosting, entertaining others that we forget ourselves, or feel too guilty to take time for ourselves. The mind plays tricks on us convincing us to delay and even forgo our needs: “I will take me time just after I finish setting this up, or making sure others are taken care of.” Sound familiar? Some how taking time for ourselves falls to the bottom of our list.
And if taking time for ourselves does not include being “productive” then it is delayed even further.
But what if taking time for ourselves is deemed essential for our sanity through the hustle and bustle of this time of year? Imagine all the energy that is wasted and sucked up with the resentment that builds up when we deny our own self-care needs.
What if taking some time to art journal, write, doodle, sketch, paint, sculpt, or to make ourselves something, can help us focus, be more productive, or help us get it done?
When we use our creative energy freely in this way with no other purpose than for enjoyment then it sets into motion the permission that we deserve.
Sparks go off in our brain and all those other things that we need to do become that much easier because we have unleashed our creative flow by saying yes to ourselves. It’s a ripple effect; take care of your self and your needs and you have more energy, creative, brain power, and so forth to focus on other stuff.
Don’t get stuck in your head, worrying about what isn’t yet, working out 101 reasons why you can’t take some time for your self first- just do it!
That’s my challenge to you, are you in? The next time you find that you are pushing aside something you wanted to do for yourself, whether it was some art, going for a walk in nature, dancing, journaling, whatever it is that is purely “you time” I challenge you to take it first. Now I understand we all have things to do and take care of, such as family, preparing for quests and on and on, but there won’t be much to offer if you are so spent from doing for everyone else.
Take some creative time for yourself and find your self. In connecting with your self you open so many doors to connecting genuinely with others.
