Teachers vs. Guides & Dream Dialogues Giveaway!
I have been focusing in more on my dreams lately. It seems there is a common thread of different teachers showing up in my dreams to tell me something that I need to know. The something I need to know is not always apparent right away. It takes some pondering and deciphering on my part to figure it out. A little bit of writing, ponder ponder, a little bit of art, ponder ponder a shift in perspective, ponder ponder, and finally an open mind to piecing it all together.
I find it interesting that it is teachers, real and imagined that have been showing up in my dreams as I prepare to teach guide others about connecting with Self through their dreams and art making. These teachers share with me their wisdom in my dreams and I look at their brilliance with awe. “Look at that” (I say to myself while staring at them in the dream) “wow, they know just what to do”.
In one dream I am a bit cocky and reply to another student as if I know what is best for them and my teacher or sense is quick to let me know this is not acceptable. I stand corrected, surprised but in agreement. Who am I to tell others what to do, how to do it? What do I know about them?
I wake recalling that feeling, and that part of the dream and am reminded of what it is I do. I smile.
I see myself as a guide for others, someone who encourages creative expression as a means for inner connection. I am not a teacher. When I am in my therapist role I am learning from my clients. When I am in the role of a mother, I learn from my children. When I am guiding others through my workshops, I learn from my participants.
When I give my workshops my role is more to listen to the needs of those there with me, through my eyes, ears and intuition. The intuition is about timing, sharing and guiding when others are ready. A teacher cannot teach someone something if they are not ready to hear it. Teachers can teach what to do in that moment by rote or repetition. But, the how cannot be taught, that is learned by doing.
My role then is to guide others to the place where they can learn through doing. This is partly the role of art. My role is to help reveal the truth that the teacher is not outside ones’ self but rather is inside. That is my task as an Art Therapist. That is my role when leading workshops or live e-courses.
Just as the characters in my dream reflect back to me my own inner knowledge I guide others to look into their their dreams and art to see what inner wisdom is reflected.
In less than a week My Dream Dialogues eCourse will be starting. I am excited. I am listening to my dreams, reflecting in my art and writing in preparation.
