Deep Painting
Last weekend I had the pleasure of facilitating another Painting With Your Muse intuitive painting workshop here in Toronto. Each time its a new experience for me as I shift the format with lessons learned in between these workshops. I’m forever a student, taking in new information and layering it, weaving it into each workshop I do. There were new faces as well as past participants from my workshops who joined us. One had previously been at my Painting With Your Muse workshop last year and gave feedback that she had since been to another “intuitive painting” class which did not feel right for her because of the focus on people giving opinions about others art. One thing that I feel strongly about is making sure everyone feels safe to express though their painting without fear of being judged, so we have a no comment rule when it comes to witnessing others paintings unfold. So often people think of making art superficially, like a product that we create that needs to look presentable or “pretty” , and although aesthetically pleasing artwork can also be deep, it usually through the process of reflecting one’s inner essence that it becomes that way. When we let go of expectation, we open up to our creative flow and so much more.
Intuitive painting is not about a particular tool or style of painting, rather it is a fluid process in keeping with our inner voice. Intuitive painting reflects who we are, yet we are not our painting. Intuitive painting allows for tuning into Self beyond thinking mind, and connecting with our creative voice beyond linear words. It is a process that time and time again I have noticed surprises people with how it can tap into feelings that we are not aware of until that very moment the painting reveals them.
Taking time to pause and reflect is an important part of the creative process. As we let go of preconceived notions we can move from the chatter of our minds . . .
. . . . and into a dialogue with Self.

As we sit with the process, allowing it to lead us rather than us trying to control it, we begin to move down into our “gut feelings” where intuition lives.
Intuitive painting is a practice in mindfulness . . .
. . . and in patience with process and self.
We only need to be open to the possibilities and all the opportunities that arise.
The next Painting with Your Muse workshop takes place in Toronto on June 23, 2018. Sign-up early as spots are limited!
